Paper Button and String Recycled Cereal Box Envelopes!

Collect the materials you will need:

one empty cereal box
paper fasteners
scissors
marker
twine
ruler
glue

Step One:

Deconstruct cereal box and cut open along one of the sides, lengthwise.

Step Two:

Mark the dimensions of the envelope starting from the box flap down.

You can adjust the dimensions of this envelope by changing the width. This envelope will be 7.5 inches in length and 4 inches in width.

The size of the cereal box you use determines the envelopes length.

Measure the envelope side flaps on the top half of the template closest to the box top flap. They should be 4 inches in height and at least 1 inch in width.

The dotted lines indicate where the template needs to be cut out.

Step Three:

Fold on middle line, two side flaps and top (sides and top will fold very easily because they made up the original cereal box).
Step Four:

With remaining cereal box materials cut out two small circles about 1 inch in diameter and two rectangles one small and one medium sized.

The circles will be used to make the paper buttons and the rectangles will be used as address and return address labels.

Paper or sticky labels can be used for the address rectangles - this will reduce the weight of the envelope.

Step Five:

Before assembling the envelope add the paper button wheels.

Using a paper fastener poke through one of the circles and the center of the envelope flap.

Using another paper fastener poke through the second circle and the backside of the envelope 1.5 inches from the top and 3.75 inches from either side (in the center).

Step Six:

Fold in the two side flaps and apply glue.

Fold the backside of envelope upwards to meet the front backside and apply pressure until glue dries.

Step Seven:

Cut a 12 inch piece of twine and tie it to the top paper button.

Step Eight:

Glue address label rectangles onto the front side at address and return address locations.

Step Nine:

Insert letter, stamp and send!

Recycled Glass Bottle Trees!

Collect the Materials you will need:

recycled glass bottle
cardboard or poster board

scrap papers (color of your choice, green or white)

scissors

glue

Step One:

Begin by cutting long triangles from the scrap paper.

You will need several hundred triangles to make “branches” all the way up and around the bottle.

Cut larger longer triangles for the base of the bottle and shorter smaller ones for the top.

Step Two:

Trace the bottom of the glass bottle on the cardboard.

From the outer edge of the circle measure a second circle to extend outward ¼ of an inch.

Cut out the interior of the ring.

You will need at least 20 rings for the base of the bottle depending on its size.

As the bottle gets smaller you will need to reduce the size of the rings.

Step Three:

Place one of the rings around the bottle, very close to the base. If desired hold in place with glue.

Apply glue to the top of the ring and begin placing the paper triangles.
Step Four:

Continue alternating between adding rings and paper triangles adjusting the size of the ring as you make your way up the bottle.
