Richmond's Creative Reuse Resource

Creative Reuse goes beyond recycling to put materials to new use in a creative way.  Artists, educators, students and businesses can reuse instead of purchasing new materials.  STUFF is local resource for creative reuse materials, educational programs and community activities.

The inspiration for STUFF, The Scrap Exchange, is a nonprofit reuse center located in Durham, North Carolina that has been collecting industrial discards and redistributing these reclaimed materials through their retail store, community events, parties and workshops since 1991. They promote creativity, environmental awareness and community trough reuse.

STUFF is currently located online only but it is our goal to someday have a permanent location for Richmond's creative reuse resource! Until then, you can hang out with us around town at festivals, workshops and with our community partners! Check out the blog for upcoming and past events!

Mission, Vision and Values

The mission of Stuff is to provide Richmond with a community space for creative reuse, education, environmental awareness, and fun stuff.

The
vision of Stuff is to become the first community destination for art and reuse supplies and educational materials in Richmond.

Stuff operates under the following core values:

Filling the education gap with Stuff; learning goes beyond the classroom.
Stuff
happens; spontaneity breeds creativity.
It's more than just stuff; there is value in our trash.
Taking responsibility for our stuff; we have an obligation to reuse.
Stuff
brings us together; community is rooted in cooperation.

Donations

STUFF is not currently accepting donations of creative reuse materials.

Currently, all donated materials are used for educational programs and are also available to individuals by request. Let us know if you need
materials for your art project, school, business or organization. We love to share!

Some of the materials that we accept include: buttons, art supplies (paint brushes, paint, stencils, beads), clean bottle caps, paper bags (large and small), all kinds of paper, magazines, wire (any size or variety), cigar boxes, CDs, springs, metal scraps, fabric bolts/remnants, magnets, feathers, x-rays, yarn , paint chip samples, tins, tennis balls, wine corks, fake flowers, trophies, ribbons and bows, craft supplies (glue, tape, popsicle sticks, glitter), egg cartons,  gift wrap, staplers, old light bulbs, candles, test tubes/lab supplies, scissors, tile, zippers, maps, marbles

Almost anything that can be REUSED in a fun or interesting way is welcome! STUFF does not accept TOXIC or DANGEROUS materials. We also do not accept items that could typically be donated to a thrift store (furniture, clothing, household items)

Volunteer

STUFF operates 100% from a volunteer base.  We are looking for environmental educators, artists, students and creative folks throughout Richmond to help STUFF grow!  If you're interested in working with us please contact us through email.
We have part time, unpaid internships available.
