The mission of
Stuff is to provide Richmond with a community space for creative reuse, education, environmental awareness, and fun stuff.

The
vision of Stuff is to become the first community destination for art and reuse supplies and educational materials in Richmond.

Stuff operates under the following core values:

Filling the education gap with
Stuff; learning goes beyond the classroom.
Stuff
happens; spontaneity breeds creativity.
It's more than just
stuff; there is value in our trash.
Taking responsibility for our
stuff; we have an obligation to reuse.
Stuff
brings us together; community is rooted in cooperation.

The
story of Stuffbegan in May 2008 when Sarah, Liz, and Diana met to talk about local sustainability efforts in Richmond.  The group pulled together a diverse team of educators, artists, business owners, and non profit employees to dream green and the idea for a creative reuse space based in central Virginia was born.   Inspired and based on a similar model, The Scrap Exchange in Durham, NC the Stuff founders hosted a series of informal meetings bringing together community members with an interest in the environment, children, arts, and reuse.  As the idea turned into a reality, the Stuff founders and committed volunteers worked vigorously over the summer of '08  to create a business plan and vision cast with local artists and educators for innovative and creative programming.  STUFF began its programs and partnerships in 2009 and had worked with Hands on Greater Richmond, Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens, VCU Department of Art Education, Byrd House Market, Save the Trash, Richmond Earth Day, Richmond Tree Stewards and Gallery5.  We are continuing to develop partnerships in the Richmond community as we work toward our goal of opening and maintaining a retail and community center. Please visit back often to see how the Stuff story grows! We are an all volunteer run non-profit and are a project of the Back Porch Initiatives.
